JukJuSanSeong Fortress,
is a historic mountain fortress
built during the Three Kingdoms period
to control a key transportation
and military crossroads in central
Korea. It was actively used until
the JoSeon Dynasty due to
its strategic location leading to
HanYang (present-day Seoul).
In 1236, General Song Mun-ju successfully
defended the fortress against
the Mongol army
after 15 days of battle.
The fortress features
a triple-layered wall system
—inner, middle, and outer walls—
built across different historical
periods. With a total length of
approximately 1,688 meters,
JukJuSanSeong offers a unique
opportunity to explore Korea’s
layered history through its
ancient fortification techniques.
